Computer Moving Boxes
Surprisingly, not many box stores online sell computer boxes. Perhaps it’s because computers can be stored in standard sized moving boxes, though these boxes in particular aren’t as strong and durable as specialty boxes. Nonetheless, they are available at several stores online.
Where To Get Computer Moving Boxes
UBoxes.com sells 19″ and 24″ wide computer kits. These kits include boxes for the computer, monitor, printer, keyboard, 3 lbs of packing paper, 1 roll of tape, and bubble wrap. The price for the 19″ kit is currently $28.50, and the 24″ kit is $29.50. So for a dollar more, you can get plenty more space if needed. These kits provide everything you need, and makes packing that much easier. This is highly recommended if you have these items.
BoxGeek.com also has a computer moving box kit. Priced at $60 currently, this kit is far more expensive. They give you a total of 4 boxes, bubble wrap, a tape dispenser, corner pads, and a utility knife. If you have multiple computers, this might not be a bad idea. The corner pads and tissue liner are nice additions.
PackingMaterials.com offers just a basic computer moving box. It’s dimensions are 24x24x24, which offers plenty of space for a monitor. The problem of course is that you won’t have a box for any other components. But if all you need is a single box, then this is an option. It’s priced currently under $10.
How To Pack Computers
The first rule of thumb is to never pack multiple computer components in one box, otherwise there is a good chance they will get damaged. If you buy one of the moving kits above, then you will have a box for each item. The CPU tower should be packed upright. If you pack it horizontally, then be sure that the motherboard chip is on the bottom. If you choose to buy the boxes separately, then a 24x12x24 moving box should work for the tower. For a monitor, a 24x24x24 moving box is a good size.
If you do decide to purchase moving boxes separately, be sure to get the double wall corrugated cardboard boxes. Going with the standard boxes is putting your computer at risk, no matter how well it’s packed.
